Legalhood.com is a commendable initiative for people who intend to settle their non-complex lawsuit at little cost and this fits well into the new judicial culture.

How it Works

Before you Begin

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

This is a joint procedure, meaning that both parties must have already agreed on every aspect of the divorce.

In the event that there are still things to settle, mediation will be suggested. If deemed necessary to proceed, you both will have to agree to go to mediation with the lawyer assigned to your case.

While this is rarely the case, if there are always points where you fail to reach an agreement, the lawyer may bill ($) you based on their own hourly rate for the additional time spent working on your case.

1. Complete the Smart Form

You must complete the smart form.

2. You Provide us Additional Information by Filling out a Second Form

As soon as we receive your form confirming that both parties have agreed to proceed in this joint procedure, a second form will be emailed to you. You will be asked to provide additional information to the lawyer. You must complete the form within one week upon its reception.

3. We Assign a Lawyer to your Case

Once both required forms have been filled out, a lawyer will be assigned to your case within 3 business days.

A 48-hour grace period is offered. You may request a full refund up to 48 hours following the completion of both forms.

4. Video Conference Session

Once a lawyer is assigned to your case, you will receive an email from them to confirm the time and date of your video conference session as well as a link to join the meeting*.

During this session, the lawyer will go over and confirm the information you provided. They will also ask you to provide them additional (required) documents.

*Please make sure that both your camera and microphone are working beforehand. Otherwise, you may join the meeting by phone.

5. Follow-Up and Application

Within the next 7 business days following your session with the lawyer, assuming you have provided all the required documents, the lawyer will email you the completed application to file for divorce based on your Draft Agreement.

You will then have to bring the printed and signed documents to your local courthouse.

An initial administrative fee of $212 will be payable directly to the courthouse, followed by a second fee of $420. Lastly, there will be a fee of $24 to receive your certificate of divorce, also payable directly to the courthouse.

Refund Policy

According to our Terms of Service, you may request a full refund up to 48 hours following the completion of both forms.

After those 48 hours, we will issue a partial refund according to our Refund Policy.
