Legalhood was super easy to use and it was much, much cheaper than what my lawyer was going to charge me for the same demand letter.
I got the service in two hours without having to go anywhere. Congratulations to your team and the great idea of this platform. I recommend you to anyone in need of a lawyer.
This is a joint procedure, meaning that both parties must have already agreed on every aspect of the divorce.
In the event that there are still things to settle, mediation will be suggested. This is most common when there are children involved in the proceedings. If deemed necessary to proceed, you both will have to agree to go to mediation with the lawyer assigned to your case.
While this is rarely the case, if there are always points where you fail to reach an agreement, the lawyer may bill ($) you based on their own hourly rate for the additional time spent working on your case.
Please be aware that if you have not been separated for more than one year, this will likely cause delays in your proceedings.
You must complete the smart form.
As soon as we receive your form confirming that both parties have agreed to proceed in this joint procedure, a second form will be emailed to you. You will be asked to provide additional information to the lawyer. You must complete the form within one week upon its reception.
Once both required forms have been filled out, a lawyer will be assigned to your case within 3 business days.
A 48-hour grace period is offered. You may request a full refund up to 48 hours following the completion of both forms.
Once a lawyer is assigned to your case, you will receive an email from them to confirm the time and date of your video conference session as well as a link to join the meeting*.
During this session, the lawyer will go over and confirm the information you provided. They will also ask you to provide them additional (required) documents.
*Please make sure that both your camera and microphone are working beforehand. Otherwise, you may join the meeting by phone.
Within the next 7 business days following your session with the lawyer, assuming you have provided all the required documents, the lawyer will email you the completed application to file for divorce based on your Draft Agreement.
You will then have to bring the printed and signed documents to your local courthouse.
An initial administrative fee of $212 will be payable directly to the courthouse, followed by a second fee of $420. Lastly, there will be a fee of $24 to receive your certificate of divorce, also payable directly to the courthouse.
After those 48 hours, we will issue a partial refund according to our Refund Policy.
If a client meets with a lawyer and purchased an Online Divorce and did not indicate they had children and then inform the lawyer that they do in fact have children, the client will be charged an additional $150 for the work incurred by the lawyer.
