How it Works
ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS:
- Your child must be of legal age and financially independent.
- Your ex-spouse must want to participate in this joint procedure and recognize that the child in question is financially independent. An email will be sent to this effect.
- You must notify the lawyer who will be assigned to your case if another child is affected by the Child Support Agreement. In that case, an additional procedure may be required. Talk to your assigned lawyer for more information.
You must complete the smart form.
We will send your ex-spouse an email (and a phone call if deemed necessary) to invite them to fill out a form and provide us with their relevant information.
PLEASE NOTE: you must provide your ex-spouse’s valid email address as this is how we will communicate with them. We highly recommend that you let your ex-spouse know that they should expect an email from us. They may want to check their spam folder.
Once the form has been filled out confirming that both parties agree to terminate child support payments, a lawyer will be assigned to your case within 3 business days.
A 48-hour grace period is offered. You may request a full refund up to 48 hours following the completion of the form.
The lawyer will have sent you the link for your video conference beforehand. During that meeting, they will confirm certain details and may ask you to provide additional documents relevant for your case.
Please make sure that both your camera and microphone are working beforehand. Otherwise, you may join the meeting by phone.
Within seven (7) business days following your session with the lawyer, assuming you have provided all the required documents, the latter will send you the completed paperwork to cancel your child support payments by email.
You will then need to sign them and bring them to the nearest courthouse*.
*Fees of $163 (non-taxable) will be payable directly to the courthouse.
According to our Terms of Service, you may request a full refund up to 48 hours following the completion of both forms.
After those 48 hours, we may issue a partial refund according to our Refund Policy.
